The Remote Company modernizes their applications with Kubernetes and NetApp Astra

The Remote Company is the parent company of a network of remote-first tech companies. The Lithuanian startup has aggressive growth plans that depend on the cloud, and they are working to modernize their applications across their affiliates. As part of their modernization effort, they chose NetApp^® Astra^™ Control to provide application-aware data management for their enterprise Kubernetes applications. The first affiliate company to implement Astra Control was MailerLite, an easy-to-use application for email marketing communications.

When the MailerLite team set out to modernize their application, NetApp helped them to move their complex application and its associated hundreds of millions of files to Google Cloud. Now that MailerLite has moved their files, such as their image stock, to Google Cloud, the company has started migrating their applications to Kubernetes.

Their main application is in the Google Cloud europe-west3 region and uses NetApp Cloud Volumes Service for Google Cloud for file storage. As they modernized the app with Kubernetes, the company realized that there was a risk of data loss for their persistent storage.

The company had deployed NetApp Astra Trident, but they realized that to implement application data protection would require considerable technical skill. That’s when they turned to Astra Control. With Astra Control they were able to take advantage of NetApp’s advanced data protection features from the application level.

The company recently launched the new Kubernetes application in the Google Cloud europe-west4 region, using Astra for Elasticsearch and file storage (small HTML and JSON files). Now they’re working on modernizing the MailerSend application using TimescaleDB and RabbitMQ with Astra Control.
